I’m so excited to share my Boppity Bunny free crochet pattern with you. It’s the cutest little rabbit ever, and it’s super easy and perfect for advanced beginners!

This Easter, I wanted something sweet and soft to make for a baby gift, and this amigurumi bunny was just the thing. It has these adorable floppy ears and a long eared look that makes it extra cute and cuddly. My grandchild couldn’t resist giving it a big snuggle after I finished!

About The Floppy Eared Bunny

I’m so excited to finally share my bunny free crochet pattern with you! I designed this cute, long eared rabbit as an easy amigurumi project that’s perfect for Easter or any time of year.

With its floppy ears, big padded feet, and round bunny tail, this little toy has all the cuddly charm you could ask for. I created a free step-by-step tutorial to make sure even confident beginners can follow along and enjoy the process.

The bunny is made with soft, plush yarn that makes it irresistibly huggable, and its cute facial features to bring out its sweet personality.

This gender neutral bunny makes a wonderful handmade gift for a baby, a child, or your grandchildren. Mine absolutely love theirs, Boppity the amigurumi bunny is just the right size to snuggle!

How to Crochet a cute bunny?

The Boppity Bunny free crochet pattern is an easy skill level amigurumi project. I wrote a detailed step by step tutorial with clear instructions, progress photos, and all the tips you need to learn how to bring this plush bunny to life.

To make the bunny, you’ll need super bulky weight 6 yarn in two colors, a bit of DK or worsted yarn to sew on facial features, poly fibre stuffing, and a pair of 18mm safety eyes.

You’ll also need both 4mm (G) and 5mm (H) crochet hooks, a sewing needle, and some stitch markers. And while not essential, long straight pins can be really helpful when sewing the pieces together!

About the yarn

To make my bunny, I used Hobbii Toucan, a weight (6) super bulky yarn in Light Turquoise and Mint.

Long Eared Boppity Bunny: Free Crochet Pattern

• US H / 5 mm crochet hook
• US G / 4 mm crochet hook (for large foot pad)
• Super bulky weight 6 yarn (approx. 131 yds)
• DK weight 3 yarn (for facial features)

Abbreviations (US Terms):

Special Stitches:

Invisible Decrease: insert hook into the front loop only of the next st, and then the front loop only of the next st, yo and pull though both loops.

Gauge:

6 sc sts = 2” (5 cm) and 6 rows = 2” (5 cm)

Notes:

• Head and body are worked top down in one piece in continuous rounds without joining. Use a st marker to keep track of beginning of round.
• Ears, arms, legs and tail are worked separately and sewn onto the body with a tapestry needle.
• Arms, legs, and tail are worked in continuous rounds, mark the first st of the round to keep track.
• Ears are worked in turned rows.
• If substituting yarn you may need to adjust the hook size. Not all plush 100% polyester yarns work up the same. I used Hobbii Honey Bunny for the Pink Bunny shown below and went down to a US G / 4 mm crochet hook for the entire bunny. Honey Bunny is a slightly softer yarn with a less dense strand. The finished size of the pink bunny is 8” (20 cm) tall x 6” (15 cm) wide.

Free Crochet Pattern: Boppity Bunny

Body:

Body: with Main Color and a 5.0 mm crochet hook

Rnd 1: Working into a magic circle, sc 5, pull tight, but do not join.

              Optional: If you do not want to do a magic circle, ch 2, sc 5 into first ch. (5 sts)

Rnd 2: Inc in each st around. (10 sts)

Rnd 3: *Inc, sc, rep from * around. (15 sts)

Rnd 4: *Sc 2, inc, rep from * around. (20 sts)

Rnd 5: *Inc, sc 3, rep from * around. (25 sts)

Rnd 6 – 7: Sc around.

Rnd 8: Sc 9, [inc] 3 times, *sc, inc, rep from * 4 more times, [inc] 3 times. (36 sts)

              Mark the post of the 18^th and 26^th st of Rnd 8 with a st marker.

Rnd 9: Sc around.

Stitched eyes:

With Hobbii Toucan Fine (or other worsted weight yarn) and a tapestry needle, insert needle into the space below the marked st, and out 2 rows above. Pull through leaving a tail to weave in later. (pic 1)

Loop yarn through same two spaces 4 to 5 times until the eye is the size you desire. Cut yarn and change to white. (pic 2)

Insert needle into and out of the same spaces as used for the black, pull through leaving a tail to weave in later. (pic 3)

Insert needle back into the base of the eye and out halfway up the center of the eye. (pic 4)

Guide the loop of the white yarn around the outer edge of the eye as you pull the yarn taut. (pic 5) Insert needle into the space at the top of the eye and through to the bottom. (pic 6)

Repeat for second eye. Weave in all ends.

Continue to work the body:

Lay one main color ear with one accent color ear centered on top of it.

Using a tapestry needle and a piece of main color yarn of at least 15” (38 cm), seam the inside ear to the center of the main color ear as shown in the photo below. 

Do not weave in end, we will use it for attaching the ear to the body.

Set aside to attach later.

Arms:

Arm: with Main Color and a 5 mm crochet hook

(make 2)

Rnd 1: Working into a magic circle, sc 6, pull tight, but do not join.

Bunny Feet

Foot: with Main Color and a 5 mm crochet hook

(make 2)

Rnd 1: Ch 9, working into the back bump of the chain, sc in 2^nd ch and next 6 chs, 3 sc in last ch, turn to work along the top of the chain, sc 6, 2 sc in last ch. (18 sts)

Rnd 2: *[Inc] 2 times, sc 6, rep from * [inc] 2 times. (24 sts)

Rnd 3: Inc, sc, inc, sc 8, [inc] 2 times, sc 8, inc, sc, inc. (30 sts)

Rnd 4: Sc blo around.

Rnd 5: Sc around.

Rnd 6: [Dec, sc 2] 3 times, [dec] 2 times, [sc 2, dec] 3 times, dec. (21 sts)

Rnd 7: Sc 10, dec, sc 9. (20 sts)

Rnd 8: Sc 5, [dec] 5 times, sc 5. (15 sts)

Rnd 9 – 10: Sc around.

Fasten off leaving a 12” (30 cm) tail to attach leg to body.

Big Foot Pad: with Accent Color and a 4 mm crochet hook

(make 2)

Rnd 1: Ch 5, working into the back bump of the chain, sc in 2^nd ch and next 2 chs, 3 sc in last ch, turn to work along the top of the chain, sc 2, 2 sc in last ch. (10 sts)

Rnd 2: *Inc, sc 3, inc, rep from *, sl st in first st of round to join. (14 sts)

Fasten off leaving a 6” (15 cm) tail.

Sew Big Foot Pad onto the bottom of the foot as shown in the photos. There should be 1 round of the bottom of the foot visible between the bottom of the foot pad and the blo ridge, and extra room at the top of the foot for the small toes.

Little Toes: with Accent Color and a tapestry needle

Cut a piece of accent yarn approx. 15” (38 cm) in length.

You will be making 3 toes above the big foot pad. It can be helpful to use removeable stitch markers to mark where you want the toes to be before stitching.

The foot is unstuffed at this point.

Toe 1: From the inside of the foot, insert needle through to the front two rows below the blo ridge at the top of the foot, leaving a 1.5:” (3 cm) tail on the inside. Insert needle into the stitch one row above the big toe pad creating a loop on the outside of the foot. Working into the same 2 stitches, repeat instructions until there are 4 loops on the outside of the foot for the toe. Your needle should be on the inside of the foot.

Move needle over, leaving a stitch between each toe, and repeat for remaining 2 toes.

When all 3 toes are complete, tie the beginning tail and the ending tail together on the inside of the foot to secure. Stuff foot firmly.

Set aside to attach later.

Bunny Tail:

Tail: with White and a 5 mm crochet hook

Rnd 1: Working into a magic circle, sc 6, pull tight, but do not join.

              Optional: If you do not want to do a magic circle, ch 2, sc 6 into first ch. (6 sts)

Rnd 2: Inc in each st around. (12 sts)

Rnd 3: *Inc, sc, rep from * around. (18 sts)

Rnd 4: Sc around.

Rnd 5: *dec, sc, rep from * around, sl st to first st of round. (12 sts)

Fasten off leaving a 12” (30 cm) tail. Thread tail onto tapestry needle and weave through remaining stitches. Pull gently to slightly close the circle.

Stuff firmly, set aside to attach later.

Assembly:

I find using straight pins to hold my pieces in place before sewing is very helpful. It gives a visual of what the pieces will look like when attached, and they are easy to adjust.

Beginning with the ears, place one on either side of the head approx. 3 rounds from the top of the head. Using the tail of the ear, seam the top edge of the ear to the body.

Once ears are attached, it is time to attach the feet. Place body against something to prop it up in a sitting position and place legs on either side of body at an angle.

When you are happy with the location of the feet, place straight pins around the top part where it attaches to the body to mark the location. Unfortunately, the straight pins will not hold the feet onto the body because they are too heavy. By marking the body, you will know exactly where the leg needs to be attached. I place pins all the way around the leg creating a template on the body for both legs.

Using a tapestry needle, sew the legs onto the body and weave in all ends. Remove straight pins. 

It is now time to attach the arms. Pin arms in place so the hands sit on top of the feet and the arms curve inward toward the body.

Once you are happy with the placement, sew arms to body using the yarn tail. Weave in ends.

Attaching the tail, with bunny seated, locate position for the tail. You want it to be low enough that it touches the table, but not so low that it afftects the bunnies ability to sit. Make sure tail is centered on the back, pin in place and then using the tail and tapestry needle sew to body.

Stitching the Nose: With Kind Feather in beige and a tapestry needle.

Cut a length of yarn 24” (61 cm).  Insert needle around 2 middle stitches at the point of the nose between the eyes, pull yarn through leaving a tail on the outside to weave in later.

Working needle into same two stitches, loop yarn around 10 times. Do not pull super tightly, you want the yarn to be snug, but not pulling on the fabric of the bunny.

Once you have completed 10 wraps on the nose, insert hook into the stitch on the side of the nose and out in the space between two center stitches 2 rows below the nose.

Pull yarn through and insert needle into the center space at the base of the nose, and back out at the space 2 rows below. Repeat one more time to create a line coming down from the nose.  Weave in both ends.

To make the eyes pop, add an accent of white around the outer edge of the safety eye. With Kind feather in white and a tapestry needle. Cut a length of white yarn 12” (30 cm) in length.

Insert needle into the stitch at the top of the eye and out at the stitch at the bottom of the eye, then insert the needle back into the same stitch at the top of the eye and out of the stitch at the top of the second eye. Gently pull the yarn through as you guide it to rest along the outer edge of the eye. Repeat for second eye and weave in all ends.

Weave in all ends and you are done!
