Abbreviations (US Terms):

ch: chain

FO: Finish Off

hdc: half double crochet

lsc: long single crochet (see special stitches)

sc: single crochet

scblo: single crochet in the back loop only

sk: skip

sl st: slip stitch

st: stitch

Special Stitches:

Long Single Crochet (lsc): For this stitch you will be inserting your hook into the SC row below the Row you are working into, yarn over, pull up a loop to the same level as the current stitches, keeping stitch loose, finish SC as normal.  LSC stitches will be worked between the 2 regular SC stitches of the previous LSC Row to create the staggered effect. If your stitches get off-center you can fix it by removing one of the SC stitches at the beginning of the row and adding it to the end of the row.

Notes:

  • Each Repeat is ¾” in height. To increase the height of your beanie, add rows before decreasing.

  • Changing colors at every lsc row will create a totally different look. See photo below.

  • Change colors in the last yarn over of the last st of the row before the color change.

  • If you want a folded brim, double the length of the starting ch plus 2 sts.
