Size G 4.0 mm crochet hook

Scissors

Needle for weaving in ends

Pattern Notes:

This crochet pattern uses the crocodile stitch to create the leaves of the trees. You will begin with a row of alternating 2DC in the same stitch and 1 DC. The crocodile stitch will be worked into the 2DC stitches that are in the same stitch. Each of these DC will have 5DC stitches worked down the post with a ch1 between. The starting chain (ch2) of the round counts as a DC. You will SLST into the DC that is by itself between the crocodile stitches. See pictures below for details.

Round 1: Work 6 SC into a magic circle, SLST into first stitch, ch1 (6)

Round 2: 2SC into each SC around, SLST, ch1 (12)

Round 3: *2SC, SC* repeat pattern around, SLST, ch1 (18)

Round 4: SCBLO around, SLST, ch1 (18)

Round 5: SC around, SLST, ch1 (18)

Round 6: SC around, SLST (18)

For the crocodile stitch rows the chain counts in the stitch count

Round 7: Ch2, DC into same stitch as join, ch2, SK2, DC, *ch2, SK2, 2DC, ch2, SK2, DC* repeat pattern from * to *, ch2, SK2, SLST into starting chain. (9)

Round 8: Ch2, working around the post of the ch2, DC 4, ch1, DC 5 around the post of the DC, SLST into the top of the next DC, *DC 5 around the post of the next DC, ch1, DC 5 around the post of the next DC, SLST into top of next DC* repeat pattern from * to *. (30)

Round 9: Ch2, DC into the same stitch as the join, *ch2, DC into the center of the of the crocodile stitch, ch2, 2DC into the SLST, between the crocodile stitches*, repeat pattern from * to *, ch2, SLST into starting chain. (9)

Rounds 10 – 11: repeat rounds 8 & 9

Round 12: repeat round 8

Round 13: Ch1, SC into same stitch as the join, *SC 3 across top of crocodile stitch, SC between crocodile stitches* repeat pattern from * to *, SC 3 across top of crocodile stitch, SLST into first SC. (12)

Round 14: Ch2, DC into same stitch as the join, ch2, SK2, DC, ch2, SK2, 2DC, ch2, SK2, DC, ch2, SK2, SLST into starting chain. (6)

Round 15: Ch2, working around the post of the ch2, DC 4, ch1, DC 5 around the post of the DC, SLST into the top of the next DC, DC 5 around the post of the next DC, ch1, DC 5 around the post of the next DC, SLST into the top of the next DC. (20)

Round 16: Ch1, SC into same stitch as join, SC 3 across top of crocodile stitch, SC between crocodile stitches, SC 3 across top of last crocodile stitch, SLST into first SC. (8)

Round 18: Ch1, SC around, SLST into first SC. F/O leaving a long tail to create a loop to hang on tree *. Weave tail through stitches and cinch. (4)

You can insert an ornament hook through the top of the tree, or do one of the following:


Using a thin ribbon or a complimentary yarn color pull through top of ornament with crochet hook. Secure with a magic knot, pull tight and trim excess for a clean look.
